Is Eargo an amplifier or a hearing aid?
Eargo devices are hearing aids - Exempt medical devices registered with the FDA and subject to FDA regulations on standards for performance, manufacturing, labeling, and safety. Most other options sold online are amplifiers – “Personal Sound Amplifiers” or PSAPs. They are general amplifiers that make everything louder and do not have to meet the same standards as hearing aids. By their definition, PSAPs are meant to amplify environmental sounds for “non-hearing-impaired” consumers.
Do I need a hearing screening to buy Eargo?
If you already have hearing screening results, call and talk to a Personal Hearing Guide about whether Eargo is right for you. If you don’t have results from a hearing screening, talk to a Personal Hearing Guide about Eargo’s hearing screening at eargo.com/hearing-health/hearing-check. Eargo hearing aids are specifically designed to help those with mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss hear better. This type of hearing loss is the most common and is caused by noise exposure or simply natural aging. Eargo hearing aids are designed to help you so you can hear life more clearly. Each Eargo device has 4 custom-developed Sound Profiles that are built on 30 years of research from world-renowned National Acoustics Laboratories and further refined with our own research and clinical studies. In addition to the Sound Profiles, Eargo has a mobile app as well. So, if you have mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss, Eargo was meant for you.
How did Eargos self-fit with Sound Match compare to hearing aids fit in a clinic?
Eargo’s Sound Match has been clinically shown to provide a self-fit that’s comparable to hearing aids fit in a clinic.*
*Based on measures of appropriate gain, speech understanding in quiet and noise, hearing aid benefit, and sound quality ratings; full study results are available here. Eargo hearing aids are intended for perceived mild to moderate hearing loss in individuals 18 years of age or older. Self-fitting is not intended to replace a medical evaluation. Consult a medical professional for more severe cases of hearing loss or for any “red flag” conditions, such as pain or discomfort in the ear, heavy earwax buildup, or sudden changes in hearing. See the full product label for when to see a doctor.
